Widespread wind damage and debris aren't the only concern for Hurricane Beryl victims in southeast Texas.

We want to get storm victims back on their feet with access to the most important essentials: fresh food, clean water, shelter, and even mental health services.

They are at the Hardy Community Center, 11901 W. Hardy Road, and the Magnum-Howell Community Center on Doss Park Road.

Harris County is also posting library locations serving as cooling centers at this map.

Disaster Assistance

If you have lost your home in Hurricane Beryl, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance provides unemployment benefits for Texans who were not able to work or are no longer working due to Hurricane Beryl. Eligible applicants must not be working as a "direct result of a major disaster."

Texas Workforce Commission said it is accepting applications for unemployment assistance in 40 counties through July 16, 2024, including: Anderson, Austin, Bell, Calhoun, Collin, Cooke, Coryell, Ellis, Dallas, Denton, Eastland, Falls, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Henderson, Hockley, Jasper, Jones, Kaufman, Lamar, Leon, Liberty, Montague, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Panola, Polk, Rusk Sabine, San Jacinto, Smith, Terrell, Trinity, Tyler, Van Zandt, Walker and Waller.

Apply for Texas disaster unemployment assistance online or by dialing 800-939-6631.

Until a federal declaration is made for individual assistance, people need to call 211 for questions, according to FEMA.

Food Assistance

Houston Food Bank said it is closely monitoring conditions and will provide relief through its 1,600 community partners across SE Texas.

Houston Food Bank has partners in Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Montgomery, Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Grimes, Liberty, Madison, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Waller and Washington counties.

SNAP Assistance

The food bank will host a free SNAP assistance event on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to first-time applicants or renewals who need assistance with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The event will also provide assistance with applications for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF); Texas Children's Health Plan (CHIP); CHIP Petinatal and Medicaid; Medicare Savings Program; and the Healthy Texas Women program.

Participants must bring their photo ID, social security number, proof of income for the last three months, proof of Texas residence, proof of housing cost, immigration documents and case number, if applicable.

Houston Food Bank is located at 535 Portwall St., in Houston. The event will be held in Community Rooms A, B & C.

Additional Food Distributions

Saint Arnold Brewing Company is offering complimentary food to go starting at 1 p.m. Friday. The brewery's beer garden and restaurant are closed, but its team of chefs will be working the smoker to help.

To-go beers will be available for purchase (cash only). While supplies last.

The Houston Rockets and Toyota Center have set up a free, drive-thru food and water distribution event outside of Toyota Center. It started at 9 a.m. and will run until supplies last and on a first come, first served basis.

Offerings will include boxed lunches, water, fruit, snacks and other hurricane relief items.

Cars should line up at the intersection of Polk and La Branch streets.

Tyson Foods is deploying its Meals that Matter Disaster Relief Team to serve hot food. This will take place each day through Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Walmart Parking Lot at 2391 S. Wayside Drive.

Crosby Church will host an emergency distribution of water, cleaning supplies and non-perishables Friday at 8 a.m. The address is 5725 Highway 90, Crosby, Texas 77532.

Harris Co. Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones announced a food distribution on Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Bayland Community Center, 6400 Bissonnet.

Matagorda Co. and Surrounding Areas

Food Bank of the Golden Crescent is working on its aid plan for neighbors impacted by Beryl.

It serves 11 counties, including Calhoun, Colorado, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Refugio, Wharton and Victoria.
